LiK Services
Free help for your start in Korea
We help you settle in, for free: clear information in English and German, a first orientation for your situation and, where needed, contacts to official bodies and licensed professionals (e.g. the City of Seoul's multilingual real estate agents, Seoul Global Center).
About us
Leben in Korea is a community made by German speakers for everyone who lives, studies or works in South Korea, or plans to. Our team knows everyday life in Germany and in Korea and knows from experience how complicated finding housing, dealing with offices, insurance and contracts can be here. That's why we collect reliable information, bring you together with the community and, if you like, support you personally.

What we can help you with
Housing
Finding a place in Korea works differently from what many are used to. We explain the basics so you avoid typical mistakes.
- Rental systems explained (Jeonse, Wolse)
- What to watch out for with deposits, utilities and payments
- Typical warning signs and how to protect yourself from fraud
- Checklist of questions for viewings and agents
Referral: For placement and the lease we refer you to licensed agents, e.g. the City of Seoul's multilingual agents, or to the counselling of the Seoul Global Center.
Visas & offices
Many procedures are hard to see through at first. We give you an overview so you know what to expect.
- Overview of common visas and the ARC (Alien Registration Card)
- Which documents are typically needed
- How online appointments and forms generally work
Referral: Binding information comes from the immigration office (HiKorea, hotline 1345) and the Seoul Global Center. For applications in your name you need a licensed administrative agent (행정사).
Settling in
For your first weeks we help you see what matters when.
- Bank account and mobile plan: what you need and what to watch out for
- Understanding health insurance in Korea
- First steps in daily life and useful apps
Referral: For specific questions, the banks, providers and the health insurance service (NHIS) help you directly, often in English too, as does the Seoul Global Center.
Language
Without Korean, a lot is harder. We show you where to find support.
- Tips for learning Korean and on courses
- Key words for housing, offices and the bank
- Pointers to free interpreting and translation services
Referral: For certified translations or interpreting at important appointments we refer you to professional translators and interpreters.
